100 candles for the master of Outrenoir

Pierre Soulages, an important contemporary artist born in Rodez in 1919, is turning 100 this year. It’s the perfect excuse for a visit to the Soulages museum, a one hour drive from Albi, and dedicated to this abstract painter, master of the Outrenoir. More than 250 pieces are on show in a striking architectural setting from the Catalan architects, RCR.

Richard Virenque’s victory in Saint-Flour in 2004

It was Bastille Day when Richard Virenique dominated at Saint-Flour, breaking from the peloton with Axel Merckx. The Frenchman won with a five minutes lead over Germany’s Andreas Kloden, earning his seventh and last stage victory. In Paris he would win the polka dot jersey as King of the Mountains.
