How we’re ensuring stress-free holidays in French ski resorts this winter

After a season cut short in March 2020, France’s ski resorts are looking forward to welcoming you for your next snowy holiday, to make special memories with family or friends on the Alpine slopes, or simply to enjoy the benefits of the sublime mountain spaces in winter, their magic and their famous hospitality.

Your safety and well-being are our top priorities

All staff in the French mountains are doing their utmost to ensure you experience an unrestricted and hassle-free holiday, and are at your disposal from the very first steps of your booking.

  • The general health measures taken by the French government in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic will be applied everywhere, and all our guests are encouraged to practise regular hand washing and use sanitising gel, cough or sneeze into a handkerchief or elbow, blow their nose into a disposable tissue and discard, wear a mask when a one-metre distance cannot be respected and in all places where it is compulsory, greet without shaking hands, and avoid hugs. Please consult the official French government website here (External link) .

  • Specific protocols dedicated to the winter season have been drawn up by professionals within different sectors. Everyone is adapting to the unique situation in innovative ways, committed to guaranteeing visitor safety while ensuring their full enjoyment.

  • You can stay with friends or family, at your second home, in a gîte or a holiday rental without exceptions
  • Health measures apply to guarantee guest safety in all shared accommodation, hotels, holiday villages, campsites, inns and heated establishments. Accommodation hosts will provide you with all the useful details concerning the protocols put in place at the time of your reservation. Some may offer a video call to answer your questions, or a dedicated online FAQ area.
  • An online check-in service has been developed to minimise waiting times at reception, especially in tourist residences
  • Many accommodation hosts are reviewing cancellation conditions to offer more flexible stays.

Ski lifts

  • Specific measures will be applied to ski lifts this winter. These include social distancing, single-directional movement and flow management in lift queues.
  • Wearing a mask will be mandatory in lift queues and on the lifts themselves.
  • Contact points on and around the lifts will be regularly disinfected.

Ski tuition

The French ski schools are delighted to be able to welcome skiers and will offer lessons in all traditionally taught disciplines, for all levels. For your safety, specific measures will be implemented (in addition to the ski lift measures):

  • Wearing a mask will be mandatory during gatherings at the start and end of lessons, for the instructor and for students aged 11 and over. There will be a restriction on the number of accompanying persons to drop off and collect children from lessons;
  • Wearing a mask will be mandatory for people aged 11 and over in the premises and public spaces of ski schools. Hand sanitising gel will be provided and surfaces regularly disinfected;
  • All loaned equipment (e.g. bibs and transceivers) will be disinfected;
  • For all reservations subject to cancellation due to Covid-19, the total amount paid will, upon presentation of supporting documents (such as a medical certificate or a copy of an institutional decision) be postponed if possible, or otherwise reimbursed. In the event that a service is interrupted due to Covid-19, it will be postponed if possible, or otherwise reimbursed on a pro-rata basis.

Public transport (planes, trains, buses, shuttles, taxis and rideshares)

  • Wearing a mask is compulsory from the age of 11 upon arrival at stations, airports, boarding waiting areas and throughout your journey. Failure to respect the rule risks a fine.
  • Boarding and travel arrangements on platforms and in areas dedicated to this purpose have been adapted to reduce contact
  • Online ticket purchase is recommended
  • Passenger numbers may be reduced due to health instructions, so we advise you to book transfers well in advance to ensure you have a place.

NB: These elements are subject to change dependent on the health situation, and all resorts will follow government guidelines (External link) .
