"Journey to the Mediterranean" at the Atelier des Lumières in Paris

In Paris, the Atelier des Lumières continues its mission of immersion in the works of art of great masters of painting. With "Monet, Renoir ... Chagall, voyage in the Mediterranean", the exhibition offers a traveling route, bringing together painters around a common inspiration: the Mediterranean and the South of France. Journey through time and space with these artists.

With 3,300 m2 (35,520 ft2) and 10 meters(32 feet) high of completely renovated exhibition space, l'Atelier des lumières, the digital art center nestled in a former foundry in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, has already established itself as an exceptional architectural heritage. Thanks to a complete restoration, an extraordinary technical installation, hundreds of projectors covering every corner of the space and a spatialization of sound to accompany the exhibitions, we've obtain a cultural place in a new area in Paris.

"Voyage in the Mediterranean" at the Atelier

The principle, created by the company Culturespace, is simple, if the explanation complicated: diffusion of works of art by optical fiber of images, digitized in ultra high definition, and set in motion to the rhythm of music specially created to accompany the exhibition. The digital art experience is breathtaking, since the visitor no longer only observes the work, you dive into it entirely, living the the smallest details.

After Klimt in 2018 and Van Gogh in 2019, the Atelier des Lumières is offering a traveling immersion in the work of twenty artists, including Renoir, Monet, Pissaro, Matisse, Signac, Derain, Dufy and Chagall. This "Voyage en Méditerranée," held from February 28 to January 3, 2021, illustrates the importance of the maritime landscapes of the South of France to the artistic personality of these painters and the importance of the Mediterranean as a place of great inspiration through the ages.

Immersion into color thanks to digital art

Seven sequences and some 500 works imbue the Atelier des Lumières, drawing visitors from one artistic current to another. Impressionism with Monet and Renoir, pointillism with Signac and Cross, fauvism with Camoin or Derain—awash in the colors and variations of these movements, you feel truly a part of these masterpieces. This is an ideal experience for those most resistant to traditional exhibitions: it's a whole new way to discover art!

At the same time, the Atelier des Lumières is inviting you to discover the work of Yves Klein, a major 20th century artist from Nice and strongly inspired by the blue sky and the Mediterranean of his hometown. Some 90 works and 60 archival images make up the digital creation entitled “Yves Klein, infiniment bleu”, which immerses the visitor in the plurality of the artist's work.
