Liz West's Contemporary Art Exhibition at Beaulieu-en-Rouergue Abbey

Fascinated by color and light, British artist and performer Liz West will install three of her flamboyant contemporary art pieces in the Cistercian Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue, Occitanie, from June to October 2019: “Our Color Reflection”, “Our Spectral Vision” and “Automn Lights”.

Intense reds, deep blues and green, bright yellows and purples—Liz West’s rainbow installations transform into the places and heritage sites the artist took possession of.

Churches, museums, old houses are illuminated and reveal their inner light through the luminous prism of these inspired thirty works, playing with neons, panels of tinted glasses or colorful mirrors. Liz West, for example, exhibited her spectacular "Aglow" installation at the Nissim Museum in Camondo at the Fashion Week in Paris in the fall of 2018.

Starting in June 2019, the abbey of Beaulieu-en Rouergue, a masterpiece of Cistercian art converted into a contemporary art center, will be transformed by three original works. "Our Color Reflection," "Our Spectral Vision" and "Automn Lights" will capture the beautiful natural light of the grandiose spaces of the historic Occitan monastery for an unprecedented immersive colorful experience.

Contemporary art and religious architecture

Chapter hall, pantry, nave and large halls will display Liz West’s luminescent, graphic and poetic creations under their storied vaults and arches.

Founded in the 12th century, improved in the 17th and 18th centuries and partially dismantled in the Revolution, the Beaulieu-en-Rouergue Abbey, restored in the 1960s, remains faithful to its vocation in the 21st century: to unite the best contemporary art and religious architecture.
