Exhibition "Christo et Jeanne-Claude, Paris!" at the Centre Pompidou in Paris

This exhibition at the Centre Pompidou retraces the Parisian years of the artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude, postponed from July 1 to October 19. The exhibition is a preamble to the recently deceased Christo's wrapping of the Arc de Triomphe, taking place in the fall of 2021. The performance will be maintained, despite the artist's death.

This exhibition is a sort of amuse-bouche for the upcoming large-scale project. The artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who notably packed the Pont-Neuf in Paris in 1975, will be honored at the Center Pompidou before the much-anticipated wrapping of the Arc de Triomphe, scheduled from September 18 to October 3, 2021.

The exhibition "Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Paris!", traces the Parisian years of the couple between 1958 and 1964, as well as the history of the project "The Pont-Neuf Wrapped" 1975-1985. These years were essential to Christo's style, during which he wrapped everyday objects and designed temporary and monumental works in public spaces.

35 years after the Pont-Neuf, Christo wraps the Arc de Triomphe in Paris

The first part of the exhibition presents approximately 80 works created from 1958, the year in which Christo and Jeanne-Claude met, until 1964, when the artists finally settled in New York.

The second part, The Pont-Neuf Wrapped Documentation Exhibition, explores all the stages of the project leading to the realization of the monumental work. This part of the exhibition presents approximately 300 pieces: drawings and original collages, models, photographs, archival documents, studies, and more.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, an exceptional artistic couple

A film also explores the ten years devoted by Christo and Jeanne-Claude to this project, as well as the biography of this exceptional couple, whose joint work has given birth to some of the most spectacular works in the history of art in the 20th and 21st centuries.
