Lyon: the Confluence Neighborhood Lyon fr

The renaissance of a neighborhood. At the southernmost point of the Lyon peninsula, Confluence takes its name from its proximity to the meeting place of the Rhône and Saône. This city center neighborhood, situated between Perrache and Sainte-Blandine, was always tied to activities of industry, harbor and the wholesale market.

But the Confluence project, a long-term urban project, has much changed the deal. The neighborhood has become in the last few years a place for a number of fun activities: strolling, shopping, taking advantage of its many terraces to have a drink, its big parks for picnics.

The cultural dimension – from the Musée des Confluences to its unique architecture – also demonstrates how renewed the neighborbood has become and its “must-see” status, symbolizing the dynamism and energy of a city that knows how to combine tradition and modernity.

New Spaces

Renowned architects and landscapers were called upon to rethink this neighborhood and revet it with an almost futurist take with emblematic buildings. Visit the Musée des Confluences and admire the Orange Cube, the Pavilions of Salins du Midi, the commercial center and leisure center (accessed by a vaporetto, inspired by Venetian tradition), the monolith or the Sucrière. On the roof of this historic renovated building, you can have a drink and take advantage of the unobstructed view of the Saône.
In terms of green spaces, the giant (34.5 acre) Saône/Confluence Park will be the green heartbeat of the peninsula. Stroll in the garden of Erevan or the Jean Couty aquarium, other notable places in the area.
Concerning the construction of residential buildings, the focus was put on modern architecture and the application of energy standards, which will make this one of the most environmentally conscious neighborhoods in Lyon.
