Awards and Accolades for Travel Companies at the French Ambassador's Travel Awards Soiree in Mumbai

The annual Ambassador's Travel Awards soirée, an initiative spearheaded by Atout France - France Tourism Development Agency - under the high patronage of the Ambassador of France to India took place at the very exclusive Chambers Terrace at the Taj Mahal Palace and Towers, Mumbai on 2nd. December. The awards aimed to strengthen France's ties further with the Indian travel fraternity and encourage their endeavours in showcasing France as a premier tourism destination.
Every year, France and its capital welcome the highest number of tourists in the world, with 84 million visiting in 2015. It is also a leading outbound destination for the Indian traveller, with an impressive half a million Indians choosing France as their holiday destination in 2015.
Launched in the form of a contest in October 2016, the Ambassador's Travel Awards invited travel agencies to submit their published travel itineraries showcasing France as either a standalone destination or included a minimum 4-night stay in the country. Close to 100 itineraries were received, out of which 15 were shortlisted and judged by an eminent panel of jury members, including His Excellency Ambassador of France to India, Mr Alexandre Ziegler. A selection of 6 winners was then made with awards divided into the following categories:

1: Best Promotion of France through Travel Itineraries - 3 awards. The Winners are:

Platinum Award : Best Showcase of France as an Experiential Travel Destination
A trip for two to France. Their French experience will commence in the cocooned comfort of business class travel courtesy Air France. Travelling within France will be a smooth ride thanks to complimentary France Rail Passes offered by Rail Europe and an indulgent stay for 8 nights/9 days in France in Paris and Alsace Champagne Ardenne Lorraine region. In Paris, our winner and their companion will enjoy an indulgent stay for 2 nights at the Saint James Paris -a Relais & Chateaux property, a 2 nights stay at the Hotel Scribe by Sofitel and a dinner show at the Paradis Latin.
In Alsace, the winner and their companion will enjoy an exciting stay for 2 nights in Strasbourg, 2 City Passes and 1 sumptuous dinner. In Reims, the winner and their companion will enjoy a stay for 2 at the centrally located Best Western Hotel de la Paix and 2 Reims City Passes.

Diamond Award: - Best Showcase of France as a Family-friendly Destination
A relaxing3 night/4 day stay (all meals included) at the very exclusive Relais & Chateaux establishment - Samode Safari Lodge Bandhavgarh courtesy Relais & Chateaux enabling the winner to experience the best of French hospitality and art de vivre a la française in India.


Gold Award - Best Showcase of France as an Incentive Destination

A 2 night/3 day stay at the Fairmont Jaipur for 2 nights/3 days compliments of Accor Group of Hotels

2: Exemplary Achievements in Visa Issuances. The Winners are

DIAMOND AWARD - THOMAS COOK INDIA LTD for registering the highest number of visa deliverances.
A 2 night/3 day stay at the Fairmont Jaipur for 2 nights/3 days compliments of Accor Group of Hotels

GOLD AWARD - COX AND KINGS LTD for registering the best growth in French visa issuances.

This year's edition also had a special award for the recipient of the 1,50,000th French Schengen visa, who won a stay in France as a family. The lucky recipient was Ms Usha Nadar and her family.

Ms Nadar and her family will travel on Air France and will enjoy a 7 night/8 day stay in France in Paris, the Hauts de France and the Pays de la Loire regions courtesy Accor Group of Hotels.
In Paris, the Nadar family will experience the best of French hospitality at the Pullman Paris Centre Bercy in a Junior Suite for 2 nights. In Amiens in the Hauts de France region, they will enjoy a 2 night stay at the Mercure Amiens Cathedrale. In La Baule in the Pays de la Loire region, our guests will indulge in a 2 night stay at the Mercure La Baule Majestic and in Nantes in the Pays de la Loire region, our winning family will enjoy 1 night at the Mercure Nantes.


On this occasion, H.E. Mr Alexandre Ziegler, Ambassador of France to India, also conferred the prestigious French distinction, Knight of the National Order of Merit, on Mr Zubin Karkaria, CEO of both VFS Global and the Kuoni Group as well as a member of Atout France's Advisory Board Council. The award comes in recognition of Mr Karkaria's stellar role in conceiving the visa facilitation system and promoting France as a premier travel destination, thus contributing to strengthening Indo-French ties and facilitating tourism influx.
