Nice Jazz Festival 2017: Côte d'Azur

17th to 21st July 2017

When legendary Grammy award-winning jazz bassist Ray Brown said, "Jazz is something you have to feel, something you have to live," he wasn't exaggerating. Jazz is the longest-running popular music style of the 20th century, and is the most expansive and creative musical genre till date. Whether jazz remains the greatest music genre of all time is for you to discover at the Nice Jazz Festival.

The elegant Nice, capital of the French Riviera and frequently patronized by the glitterati, has always charmed everyone who goes there. Indeed, who can refuse a morning view of the sunrise on the azure blue waters of the Mediterranean sea, a leisurely stroll on its ultra famous Promenade des Anglais and an enchanting panorama of the Baie des Anges, an afternoon's shopping at the Old Town, and a gala soirée at the casinos? That, along with one of the Riviera's biggest annual events- The Nice Jazz Festival- is an especially good excuse to visit Nice. For jazz aficionados, the Nice Jazz Festival is impossible to miss. For the uninitiated, the Nice Jazz Festival is the first jazz festival in the world to have gained international significance and brings you closer to a musical genre that is over a 100 years old.

From the best of the current jazz scene to an international artist line up that will certainly put you in the mood to sway, you could easily immerse yourself in a world of music that unites you with the people of Nice, and allows musical passion to diffuse everywhere. Last year, the festival saw a record-breaking attendance of more than 60,000 spectators. This year, celebrating its 67th anniversary, the festival will see the likes of Herbie Hancock, Mary J. Blige, Johnny O'Neal and Laura Mvula, among a host of other international and French artists. (To see the entire artist line up, click here http://www.nicejazzfestival.fr/en/programmation/2017)

So re-write your bucket-list to include the Nice Jazz Festival, and be there at the Théâtre de Verdure and Place Masséna to watch about 30 super-talented artists, who will help you appreciate the sharp but sweet sound of the saxophone, the melody of the trumpet, the variety of notes and chords of the piano and the rhythmic beats of the drums. After all, like jazz, life is best when improvised.
