Nice Carnival 2017, the King of Energy
The theme of Nice's 2017 Carnival (or Carnaval) is "energy." From interpersonal energy and technological energy to economic and ecological energy, one thing's for sure: the 2017 show will be electrifying!
For its 133th Carnaval, Nice is going with the spirit of the times. Energy is more important than ever, the headline of every front page, especially with the implementation of resolutions made at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (or COP 21) in Paris. The Nice Carnival will be the "Roi de l'Energy," or the King of Energy, dancing through the streets of the capital of the Côte d'Azur.
The 2017 edition of the Nice Carnival, as usual, will be made up of two distinct spectacles: the Carnival Parade (or the Corso Carnavalesque), which will continue from the daytime into the night, and the Bataille de Fleurs.
Storytelling and burlesque floats will process through the Place Masséna, accompanied by a mix of street arts shows and mini-concerts by international music groups. These parade floats all have a celebratory air, as if embarking on maiden voyages.
With a magnificent view over the Mediterranean Ocean, the elegance of the Bataille de Fleurs evokes the natural heritage of the region. The floral theme will also be incorporated into the costumes of models, who will be distributing thousands of petals to the audience.
Alongside these festivities, Carnival time presents a marvelous opportunity to discover Nice in wintertime: the mild climate, the brightness of the Mediterranean sky, and an art de vivre totally unique to the Côte d'Azur.
