Stroll through the streets of Reims, by day or by night : many sites, monuments and museums show the history of Reims, from the Gallo-Roman to the modern era, going through the Art Deco period. One knows Reims through its cathedral but often one ignores that the town hides many other treasures. While visiting the town, one discovers here and there unexpected riches. Reims, bearing the marks of the wars, is also a symbol of peace which offers you an important military collection, reminding the visitors that Reims was a stronghold of resistance during the First World War and is also the town, in which the act of the full surrender was signed on the 7th of May 1945, which ended the Second World War in Europe.Reims offers a large and varied choice of parks and gardens for the pleasure of its inhabitants and visitors. Some of them cover more than 220 hectares. It concerns small gardens in the neighbourhood as well as large grounds for recreation, open-air physical activities and sites favourable for daydreaming. Colourful, scented, thematic flowerbeds linked to the four seasons honour the '4 flowers' that the national jury awarded the City of Reims. The department Marne has indeed 103 communes ranked 1 to 4 flowers. Reims is also the winner of the 2005 Award for Collective gardens flowering. True artistic and natural assets, Reims parks are among the most popular spots for city dwellers. You will find below the most remarkable of them: Parc Léo Lagrange, Parc de la Patte d'oie, Pierre-Schneiter Horticultural garden and Parc de Champagne. The "Coulée verte", a wide band of greenery that crosses the city from north-west to south-east, follows the courses of the River Vesle and the Aisne-Marne Canal. Although still under development, it has already become a very popular recreational and entertainment area for walkers, joggers and cyclists. The Parc naturel régional de la Montagne de Reims, hiking paradise located in the outskirts of the city, has been created in 1976. It includes the spectacular site of the Faux de Verzy.
